The Scorpion drive offers high performance, low cost, multi-gigabyte protection for high-end servers and workstations. It can back up to 4GB capacity, compressed, using 90 meter tapes and 8GB capacity, compressed, using 120 meter tapes. It features a 1100Kbyte/second transfer rate, and has a high-performance 1Mbyte buffer increasing the drive's performance. The Scorpion has a SCSI-2 interface and fits into a 3.5-inch half height or 5.25-inch form factor. It uses 90 and 120 meter tapes and Helical Scan recording method. Helical Scan heads record data at an angle, rather than in a straight line which utilizes the entire width of the tape. In addition, the Scorpion states a 30 second seek time using 90 meter tapes and 40 second seek time using 120 meter tapes. The Scorpion is compatible with most popular operating systems, including Windows 95, Windows NT, Netware, and Unix.
