The RSA SecurID 5100 is the first true Java card released by RSA Security to address the growing interest in pre and post issuance of applets and digital credentials. Java standards-based cards that support multiple applications promise economies of scale, easing the burden on administrators and end users as the number of cards in circulation continues to grow. The security features that make the smart card the strongest container for private keys and digital credentials are also very appealing. The RSA SecurID 5100 smart card is based on Java Card 2.1.1 technology, the proven platform of choice for smart card deployment. Java Card technology brings the Java programming language to smart cards by providing a customized subset of core and extension Java packages and classes for programming smart card applications compliant with ISO 7816. The RSA SecurID 5100 smart card allows end-users to securely store multiple certificates; key sets and passwords for single sign-on. In addition, Java applets used to run middleware solutions or loyalty and cash value systems can be loaded prior to issuance to end-users and post-issuance in cases where updates and additions need to be made to applets. Organizations can download entirely new or updated card applets to the card at any point in its life cycle. RSA SecurID 5100 cards can operate either with onboard card programs or host-side programs written in a variety of programming languages, and can operate with programs designed to comply with the PKCS #11 specification or Microsoft's CryptoAPI architecture. The RSA SecurID 5100 Java Card can become whatever you want it to be.
