IBM introduces a new model of the IBM TotalStorage Storage Area Network (SAN) Switch family, providing 2 Gigabit Fiber Channel (FC) performance and additional functions to support the storage networking demands of higher security, throughput, and management controls. The new model F16 is a 16-port Fiber Channel switch based on a new generation of switch technology. It is designed to provide 2 gigabit per second port-to-port throughput with auto-sensing capability for connecting to existing one gigabit per second host servers, storage, and switches, in a smaller 1U form factor, requiring half the space of the previous 16-port SAN Switch. The new model is designed to be fully interoperable with the current IBM SAN Switches.
