EBS BackPaq is a bundle of Compaq Fiber Channel hardware and VERITAS backup software designed to promote the benefits and affordability of Fiber Channel SAN backup. Placing a Fiber Channel infrastructure between your servers and tape library enables increased network bandwidth, long cable distances, and centralization over direct SCSI attached tape drives or network style backups. Designed for Windows 2000, Windows NT, and/or NetWare environments, this StorageWorks Enterprise Backup Solution (EBS) bundle presents the tape library as a shared, common resource to all servers. This simplifies the management of backup/restore jobs and the management of tape media so that daily backup is less time consuming, more automated, and less error prone - the goal for effective data management. Using a Fiber Channel infrastructure, EBS BackPaq with VERITAS Backup Exec provides an entry-level Fiber Channel data protection solution at a comparable cost to that of distributed DLT or AIT devices for the same five-server environment.
