The XV-N5 is a slim new-generation DVD player. This new DVD player is compatible with CD-R and CD-RW discs, to let you play and enjoy the compilation mixes you make on your own using a CD-R/RW recorder. It also comes equipped with a decoder to play MP3 sound files in compressed format. The XV-N5 is especially versatile as it plays JPEG files on a CD-R or CD-RW. This means you can view digital still images you've captured with your digital camera on your TV. Conveniently, the slide show function automatically displays still images one after another. Perfect for your holiday photos! As an added convenience the XV-N5 plays motion picture DVD-R discs you've recorded on a DVD recorder. What about the video quality of the new JVC DVD player? The XV-N5 features a 10-bit/54MHz video D/A converter that oversamples the video signal to ensure truer-to-the-original images with minimum loss. The converter incorporates the VFP (Video Fine Processor), a JVC exclusive that allows flexible picture control for the highest quality. You can adjust seven parameters - brightness, contrast, etc. - according to your preferences and access four preset positions (two factory and two manual settings). The 192kHz/24-bit audio P.E.M. D.D. Converter allows the XV-N5 to extract a superior sound with extended frequency response and fine resolution from super-fidelity DVDs. The XV-S302 features the one-bit P.E.M. D.D. Converter with expanded 96kHz/24-bit resolution for fine sound performance. With the XV-N5, upgraded GUI (Graphical User Interface) eases operations with on-screen display of menus and settings. This year's new touch is the Windows-like tool bars that appear overlaid at the top of the TV screen. With options listed in drop-down menus, the new GUI allows a simple point and click operation. A particularly convenient function is included in the XV-N5. The 30-Disc Memory Resume function allows you to pick up where you left off with the 30 most recently viewed DVDs. A remote control is standard with all JVC DVD players. However the XV-N5 comes with a multi-brand remote which glows in the dark. Multi-brand remotes come with preset codes to let you operate TVs from other makers as well as from JVC. A coaxial digital output is standard with the new JVC DVD players (plus an optical output with the XV-N5) for connection of a Dolby Digital/DTS/MPEG Multichannel decoder or a receiver, making it a snap to upgrade to the latest cinema sound systems. Other key features include NTSC playback on PAL TV, 'Digest,' 'Zoom,' 'Angle List' and 'Strobe' functions, and three forms of video outputs (SCART, S-video and composite).
